Brands VS Brand Ambassadors
This really is an alarming situation and tough for brand owners to respond to when their own brand ambassador leaves them cringing with negative brand statement. A recent comment of Big B's 'Poison' remark left PepsiCo guys saddened- for them this was not acceptable as he had endorsed the brand for years since 1998.
I see Big B's statement was a matter of self-realization (or matter of soul/conscience) out of the fact on how the soft drinks are becoming a health hazard to our society at large and that's the same message we educate our child with.
As a brand owner, the company had paid millions in endorsement and all of such arrangements are evaluated before endorsements by the celebrities but I respect Big B for the courage to say so as this involved a little girl to question him "why you endorse a brand when my school teacher labeled it as poison?". For PepsiCo, there is another ambassador already endorsing the product with more adultish campaign. But what about products like Maggi noodle (junk food) and is labeled as 'not good for health'.
A living legend like Big B can do it, will it be possible for others to do so..and if not what are we doing..selling a product with caution like we see our movies full with disclaimer on smoking or why should we not debating on to ban the products if they become a disease or cause of a disease. Tobacco, Alcohol and much more on the list..
