Managing diversity at work place:
Managing diversity at work place is as interesting as having a set-up of people in your family or team; who come from various educational, professional and at time ethnic backgrounds; which helps you understand their needs, social requirements and complications which they face on regular intervals.
When you really interact with them, you feel that the factors; which are miniscule or negligible for you in nature or non-problematic at all, are their acute problems and you resolve it quickly and help them having a faith on you as a friend or family members. You, at times, come closure to the people, those, you can not interact on routine course because of your likings or disliking with an individual; helps you them diluting your ‘ego’ and other so called professional ethos.
I am of the opinion that, people (or human beings precisely to describe) are unpredicted- for example;
If you are meeting an individual for the first time, you out of your courtesy or wish to greet him professionally, take your right hand; and the individual (who is an educated person, but with different profile and upbringing) takes his left hand to complete the hand shake; what you do:
You don’t abuse him or tell him that shaking left hand, as per the business/ courtesy norms, shows that either he has his personal ego attached with that process or he has a faulty right hand (being a left handed individual). What would you do? - would just ignore it as you would not like to get into justifying or giving this individual your philosophy of life.
Life if full with such instances where you face so many characters, and you need to ignore them for achieving your ultimate objective and long term goal- this is called vision and extroverted-ness. Or else, you would be imbibing with a thought which is surrounded by various negative factors and peoples like this. One, to avoid these elements; which at times are fatal for your growth or healthy think-ability and two to give time to things which are of extreme importance to you.
If, you are through with above experience, you may not be able to achieve what I was trying to achieve above, simply because of the fact that, I have diverted my mind from ignoring to something which is non-constructive to human relationship building process. If you would ignore the situation aptly, you would able to achieve what you want. This diversity, at workplace helps you coping with factors and situations, as mentioned above and helps you in achieving your ultimate goal, without involving the personal attributes like ego, professionalism, social status, philosophy and so on. After all, a person who serves you tea in your office is as ‘human’ as the managing director or promoter of the company.
